This is Zoe (she/they/he). Superior is their current hometown. She draws these fantastic art pieces when out and about town or on a journey. A “snapshot of trips.” He views it as a memory book of sorts, drawing whatever is in the current environment. They are passionate about wildlife biology and conservation and don’t want to end up working for some big corporation, giving over their soul to a behemoth that doesn’t care. She saw how it affected her dad who worked in that hell world for all his life, and witnessed an amazing transformation the past year as he quit that life. The first few drawings are of the Island School in the Bahamas, and something cool you can see in one is a regenerative coral reef, built to bring the coral back to life.
Zoe has always loved nature and animals, and that is why they are drawn to landscapes and mushrooms, and cats! When he was young he would always LARP as a zookeeper when it was dress-up time. She calls her art style “Detailed minimalism” or “Realism with style” where you can get the general picture, but it’s not totally filled out and it breathes with life from the mistakes. They have always tried to make the art as perfect as possible, but through wisdom and practice has learned to let the mistakes in to create an imperfect perfect picture.
One thing about her art books that is wisdom for us all is “If you don’t like it, rip it out.” It’s always okay to change your mind and let go. One word of wisdom they wish to share with us all is that if you want to learn to draw, just do it! People will always come up to him and say “Oh, I wish I could draw like that I can barely draw a stick figure!! Hahahah!!!” But she learned from just sitting down and starting to draw. She is frustrated by people thinking these great drawings just happened like magic. It’s been many years of trial and error, a lot of practice, a lot of doing, and a lot of being immersed in our wonderful natural world. Thank you for being a Person of the Front Range Zoe!
